Maui Jim started off just like many other businesses - a small shop servicing a local need.  After several years of selling sunglasses they realized something better was needed.  There was not one brand of sunglasses on the market - including their own - that could battle the intense glare and damaging ultraviolet rays. Unknowing to them, a global following would eventually start.

 

1986 -  The company developed PolarizedPlus®.  This technology was unheard of and thought to be impossible because it eliminated glare without reducing or compromising colors.

 

1991 - For 5 years Maui Jim sunglasses were only available to people fortunate enough to live on or visit the island.  Enter Hester Enterprises who purchased this emerging company and had the resoures to introduce this amazing technology to the US mainland.  Millions around the world would soon see vibrant colors and reduced glare while enjoying their favorite outdoor activities.

 

1994 - RLI Vision Corporation is enlisted by Hester Enterprises to be the mainland distributor of Maui Jim Sunglasses.

 

1996 - Maui Jim, Inc. is established with the acquisition of RLI Vision.

 

1998 - Maui Jim begins its travels around the world with offices opening in France and Canada.

 

2000 - Australians welcome Maui Jim with its new office.  The MJ Sport collection is born.

 

2001 - The extremely light and flexible Titanium and Titanium Sport collection are unveiled.  The popularity of these ultra light glasses soar!

 

2002 - Maui Jim Bienvenido a México!!

 

2003 - The United Kingdom gives a royal welcome to Maui Jim's new UK office.

 

2004 - PolarizedPlus2® technology is born boosting color and eliminating blinding glare all over the world

 

2006 - This year marks the ground breaking of Maui Jim's new Rx lab and a new revolution - the MJ Shields line.
